Please join us in calling upon the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation (IRRR) Commissioner and Governor Walz to reject the position taken by the IRRR Board and approve a grant for safe drinking water on the Fond du Lac reservation.
On June 10th, the IRRRB singled out and rejected a $250,000 grant application from the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa to provide safe drinking water to the reservation community of Mahnomen.
The Band’s grant application was highly rated by staff. It was singled out for rejection because legislators claimed the Band was “anti-mining” for their work protecting clean water, air, wild rice, and the health of their members. All other grant proposals were approved.
Clean drinking water is a right and, all of us, including the Fond du Lac Band, have a right to protect our rights without fear of government retaliation. Please call upon IRRR Commissioner Mark Phillips and Governor Tim Walz to publicly overrule the IRRR Board, fund the drinking water project, and repudiate the politics of bullying.
