National actions

1)  TAKE ACTION:   Tell the U.S. EPA to strengthen the mercury mining air pollution rule.  About 90% of the mercury in Minnesota land and waters comes from air pollution elsewhere.  Help protect the environment everywhere by placing limits on mining pollution.  EARTHWORKSaction.org

2)  TAKE ACTION:   Fix rules to require reporting by the mining industry, the LARGEST emitter of toxic chemicals.
Your help is needed to make sure that citizens know what toxic chemicals are being released; how much is released; and where that pollution is going. Please write the EPA and ask them to improve how the metal mining industry reports their chemicals under the TRI program.

MINNESOTA Actions

Circulate the "NO Sulfide Mining"

PETITION

Virtually everyplace in the world that sulfide rock has been distrubed to extract metallic minerals, it has produced acid mine drainage and polluted the water.  These include some of the largest U.S. Superfund sites, costing taxpayers millions of dollars for clean-up attempts.  Because it has not been proven safe to mine sulfide ores in Minnesota, if you believe permitting agencies should not issue a non-ferrous permit to mine to PolyMet or any other company at this time, act now.

You can print or download, circulate and return the petition requesting "... all State and Federal authorities with jurisdiction to deny any request for a permit to mine metals associated with sulfur-bearing rock".
