2/10/12 WaterLegacy alerted the Star Tribune to reasons for PolyMet delay and supplied a detailed brief to responsible and cooperating agencies.  We raised issues of faulty assumptions and lack of adequate data for statistical modeling in the current environmental review of the project's potential water impacts.

On a historic 8-day 350-mile trek to raise concern about sulfide mining pollution, former state Representative Frank Moe and his sled dogs led a grassroots campaign that collected and presented to Governor Dayton over 13,000* petition signatures prevailing upon State and Federal authorities to

“deny any permits for sulfide mining that threaten Minnesota’s water or natural resources”.

Tests find toxins at Flambeau mine

This "model" copper mine in Wisconsin has been held up by the industry as a glowing example of a clean, safe sulfide minerals mine.  But after a decade of incomplete closure, toxic pollution is still reaching the Flambeau River.  Read the full article.
